Doing retail sales differently: 2 drivers for the future

People have always less time to see you, to hear your voice...

The 1st competitor in many business has a name: the TIME....

...We have no time to read a newspaper, we have no time to see all things thought for us in this fantastic world...hours by hours...minute by minute, days fly...

We are always more connected, we can make more things in less time, but every new tool (BB, twitter,...) give us more things to discover and in the meantime they eat minutes, hours....

So if you are thinking about retail's drivers for the future, think about Time! Think about when people can make to things in the same time or when people is wasting time and try to achive opportunities from these situations.

2 drivers for the retail future:

Proximity - make two things in the same time

Think about gas station and how is confortable find newspaper and coffee in the meantime you are doing fuel.
Think about the TV and as it would be nice to click a button and buy the song you're listening during an ads or a movie

Many of these situation are the reality but there are huge new opportunities to sell in unusual situations

Captive - get value from wasting time

Think about all situations when you are waiting something, you have no choice: you are in captive!
There are many situations like this one: on-flight, on-train, on-car, on-elevator..etc...
They are huge opportunties for retail sales...

“Fundamentally we’re an airline with a retail tail,” said Michael Cawley, deputy chief executive of Ryanair.

American Airlines has begun a limited test of the retail concept. It is selling Heathrow Express train tickets on London-bound flights, and it is offering in-flight Internet access and items from SkyMall — the glossy catalog that has had a reserved space in the seatback pocket of airliners for 20 years — on 165 airliners.

There are many opportunites like those... When people feel to waste time, are much more willing to listen, to discover new things
...because, you know, in this era we are dependent on knowledge and we feel bad if we are making nothing;)
